Handout: Gantt Table for Planning Social Research - Spreadsheet
Gantt tables are useful ways of visualizing a plausible plan for a research project. These often appear in grant proposals and thesis proposals. The illustrate how several components or methods, sometimes called "work packages" will fit together over a rhythm of tasks, roles, milestones and deliverable. They can help convince a potential grantor or PhD committee chair that you have actually thought about the many different elements of successful research.
Here is a Word Document template for planning social research, with tasks, roles, milestones and deliverables for a hypothetical 5 year project. Here is a Spreadsheet template for planning these things for a hypothetical 3 year project. Both are formatted for a single page and are easy to edit.
