I am a professor and writer. I study how political elites manipulate public opinion. I teach at Oxford University and I am a Professorial Fellow at Balliol College. I write about information politics and international affairs, and I am the author of eight books, including The Managed Citizen, The Digital Origins of Dictatorship and Democracy, Pax Technica: How the Internet of Things May Set Us Free or Lock Us Up, and most recently Lie Machines: How to Save Democracy from Troll Armies, Deceitful Robots, Junk News Operations and Political Operatives. I have won multiple best book awards, and my research and commentary writing has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and many international media outlets.
